Principles of fluid mechanics – educational films by Hunter Rouse

Learning and teaching fluid mechanics are no easy tasks. In a series of six short videos (20-25 min.), Dr. Hunter Rouse delivers an accessible, lively and succinct account on six fundamental topics in fluid flows: (1) dimensional analysis and similitude (2) descriptors of fluid flows (3) effects of gravitation (4) laminar and turbulent flows (5) drag, lift and propulsion and (6) compressibility effects.

A short bio – Dr. Hunter Rouse was a renowned hydraulician who made seminal contributions in river hydraulics, sediment transport and turbulence in open channel flows. He graduated from MIT with a degree in civil engineering and completed his PhD degree at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. In honor of his contributions to the field, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) established the Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award in 1979.
